Laura Barrantes

passionate about sleepaway camp, donuts, and getting stuff done

I love, love, love, loooooooooove getting things done. Whether it is a project for a client, coordinating a trip with friends, or powering through my own to-do list, checking stuff off a list brings me joy.

If I had my druthers, my resume would have three bullets

  • Getting stuff done (high school - present)

  • Awesome at alphabetizing (Ma goes before Mc)

  • Can drive a manual transmission on both sides of the road (2010 to present)

As a former nonprofit Executive Director with more than 25 years of experience in higher education programs, event planning, project management, and supporting CEOs, operations is the common thread throughout my working life.

I founded The MFP Group in 2019 to cultivate my love of tackling to-do lists by offering clients the benefits of my executive-level experience on a short-term or per-project basis to get those organizational items or operations projects off their plates.

At my core, I am a person who builds community among the people with whom I work. I work hard while having fun, being fun, acting inclusively, and being positive. I laugh a lot with clients, bringing joy to our work while knowing that their projects are serious business.

MFP wouldn’t exist today if it weren’t for the wandering path of work that led me across the country and across the world from New Zealand to Uganda. I have experience in nonprofits and universities of all sizes, including TechnoServe, the American Political Science Association, the University of California, Irvine, the University of Maryland, and the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand.

I have a Nonprofit Management Executive Certification from Georgetown University, an MA from the University of Maryland, and a BA from Cornell University.

I will extol the benefits of sleepaway camp until my dying day, can talk to you all day long about why Maine, curling, and jumping pictures are worthy of lifelong devotion, and in the fall of 2024, I spent 35 days walking the Camino de Santiago across Spain.

Laura’s smart, calm, and solutions-oriented approach to moving through tasks/projects not only drives results forward but also make her a pleasure to work with. She has developed a series of operating systems that have resulted in me having more energy to serve my clients and streamlined the behind-the-scenes resources needed to run my experience planning practice. I am so grateful to Laura and appreciate having her as a trusted advisor, she has become invaluable to me and my business.
